Learn Trading in Nigeria
A localised free guide for Nigeria learners — local regulator, local exchange, tax note and the same $100,000 virtual practice account.
Trading from Nigeria
TradeHQ provides a free paper-trading environment for people in Nigeria who want to build practical understanding of US and global markets without risking money.
Why practise first
Paper trading lets users experiment with market mechanics using virtual cash without relying on a particular real-money platform, fee structure or FX-funding route.
How market access works here
For real-money market access, check the SEC Nigeria registered-operator database and the provider's current terms. The SEC also warns investors about unregistered online investment platforms, so verify registration rather than relying on marketing claims. TradeHQ itself does not require a brokerage account or payment.
Regulation
Brokers serving Nigeria residents are supervised by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Nigeria (SEC Nigeria) (https://sec.gov.ng/). Check any broker's licence with the regulator directly before sending money.
Broker types used locally
- Capital-market operators in the SEC Nigeria registered-operator database — verify the current status of any provider before relying on it
Realistic starting capital
TradeHQ does not publish a real-money starting amount because provider minimums, fees, FX terms and personal circumstances vary. Verify current terms directly with a registered provider if you ever consider a real account.
Locally relevant assets to follow
- The NGX All-Share Index as the domestic benchmark
- USD/NGN, which shapes almost every price in the economy
- Brent crude, given the weight of oil in national revenue
- US large-cap equities, the most common international exposure available locally
A three-month practice plan
First quarter: month one on Trading Psychology with a written journal. Month two on Macro Reading, following how oil prices and CBN policy feed into the naira and into local inflation. Month three on repetition — one documented strategy and several hypothetical sizes over a stated practice sample, then an honest review of the worst stretch rather than the best week. The US session opens in the Nigerian afternoon, which makes live practice more feasible here than in most of the other guides.
Tax
Tax treatment depends on current law and individual circumstances. Check current official Nigerian guidance or a qualified tax professional; TradeHQ does not provide tax advice. This is general information, not tax advice — confirm your own position with a qualified local professional.
If you are a student
Students and beginners can use the simulator and courses to practise market concepts and document simulated decisions without risking money.
